To anyone (agencies, creatives, voice actors, etc.) creating a website.

Don't try to get TOO creative with your website.

If I have to guess what a specific section of your website is, then you're failing on your website layout.

I LOVE that you're trying to be creative, however, you don't want the new visitor to your site to be confused by the navigation bar that's full of nothing but linkable words that start with the letter 'I.'

When I click 'Innovation' is that to mean this is where I can see examples of your work? Or is this a summation of your creative process to GET to the work?

I'm thoroughly confused.

Look, there are certain things you don't need to change and shouldn't change.

A car has four tires on it. You don't need to put 2 tires with 1 in the middle front, the other in the middle back with a gyroscope system to keep the vehicle upright. THAT'S not where you should be using your creative muscles. Just put the 4 tires where they are supposed to be and use the rest of the vehicle to 'show me what you got.'

When someone goes to a website they want to be able to know exactly where everything is. For instance...

'About Us'

'Our Work'

'Contact Us'

'Our Team'

No one will have any confusion with these, right?

Again, the attempt at a different website is coming from a good place. You're trying to be creative, and I get it. However, you might be losing potential clients/work because they don't know how to navigate your website. This might make potential collaborators wonder how difficult it's going to be to actually WORK with you.

And if they're thinking of how difficult it is to work with you and not the possibilities of working with you, you've failed in your website.

Look, I don't claim to be an expert on websites but I DO claim to be someone who goes to lots of websites for creative people/organizations and I know what turns me off from a site and what draws me in. If I have to pull out a sextant (see pic) to figure out where to go on your site, ya lost me.

Now, go do good business!
