Kudos to Nexon and Embark Studios for realizing what voice actors have been saying all along. Here's Embark Studios CEO Patrick Soderlund on their decision to replace AI voices in Arc Raiders (one of the biggest games of 2025) with real voice actors:
“There is a quality difference. A real professional actor is better than AI; that’s just how it is. We look at [AI] first and foremost as a production tool. We can test things internally. We can test 15 different lines without recording them, and then we know what to record. It’s also a way for us to work, not replace actors. ...”
It's a real-world testament to what works and what works BEST. Sure, the AI voice will work but to have someone be immursed in something (ala, a videogame) you have to have all of the most believable elements in play.
If a player here's a voice that just doesn't 'seem right' it's going to take them out of the game. Will it RUIN the game? No, but it will add to an overall negative experience that won't give you the product it's 100% potential.
So to all the developers, casting people and otherwise position of hiring voice for a project: Please go get a real human to voice it for you.
